Photographer Mohamad Badarneh wonders whether images of joy can rise above images of barricades and murder? And what might push the photographer to capture Palestine without the facets of occupation; detention, gun re and bloodshed? Is it escapism? Or is it an "elimination" of the occupation in the artistic sense? Or perhaps a search for hope despite all the surrounding darkness?

e work alludes to these intersections, contradictions and questions, and explores the con ict between two worlds of photography, one of which dominates the other in Palestinian visual culture.

“I try to let the viewer bear the weight of the dilemmas and questions that I inhabit, and leave him to choose the image of Palestine that he desires. us, the images keep changing throughout the course of the exhibition in a constant polemic between human capacity, and the impasse and brutality of walls.” – Mohamad Badarneh
